HOW WE COACH
HOW WE PLAY
THE MENINAS WAY

Meninas Football Club follow the England DNA coaching principle of:

Love the ball, love the game

Players are encouraged, through age-group appropriate priorities, to want to have possession of the football, to be creative on the pitch, to collaborate with their teammates, to work hard to win back possession and above all else, enjoy the game

U6 & U7

FUN AT ALL COSTS

Players at this age group are encouraged to enjoy the game. Sessions may involve introducing some of the ball mastery aspects of the coaching syllabus but mainly games designed around ABCS (agility, balance, coordination and speed) are used.
Matches of 2v2 / 3v3.
U8 & U9
LEARNING TO PLAY

Entered in to the league for the first time at U8, players are introduced to ball mastery aspects. Training sessions focus heavily on individual development, encouraging players to enjoy dribbling, try new skills and beat players.
Matches of 3v3 - 5v5

U6 & U7
TRY

Meninas Football Club welcome all players new to the game of football to try the sport for the first time. The club encourages its players to be creative and try new things on the pitch. Creativity is key.
U10 & U11

IMPROVING DECISIONS

Moving to the 7v7 format and the bigger pitch puts more focus on players learning when to pass, dribble or shoot. Passing lines are introduced and decision making practises, encouraging learning through mistakes, are used frequently in training.

Matches of 5v5 - 7v7
U12 & U13
BECOMING MORE AWARE

Progression to competitive leagues, cups and 9aside football leads to a tactical and technique focus on using the width of the pitch. Players are encouraged to contribute to discussions about selection / formations to develop further.
Matches of 5v5 - 9v9

PLAYING A ROLE

Transitioning to the 11aside format alters the focus to individualised training / awareness. Players become more settled in positions and are encouraged to recognise how they can contribute to the four phases of the game.

Matches of 5v5 - 11v11
